ipod heartbreak

have you ever wondered why we have lockers in the temple? why should that even be necessary? my mom tells the story of being in the hawaii temple soon after it was dedicated. they provided these beautiful, handmade baskets for the patrons belongings to be stored in while performing sacred temple ordinances. how perfect. well, not so perfect. apparently church members belongings were being stolen. what? did i hear right? not possible.

monday morning at seminary. everyone's belongings (backpacks, books and purses) are thrown in the hall, just outside the seminary door, where gospel principles are taught, goodwill and love abounds.

not.

eden's ipod was stolen from her purse as she was sitting in her seminary class, not worrying one bit about who might be rummaging through her belongings, completely uninvited. she is missing her itouch too, the one she got for christmas. i chalked it up to just being misplaced, but after this, it is probably in the hands of the same punk.

welcome to the real world, eden. and to whoever stole it...i would like to kick your little bratty butt.

so much for mormon love.

let sleeping dogs lie

why is it that i love my children more when they sleep? all of the warm and fuzzy feelings of caring and devotion are front and center when my children are slumbering away. maybe because they are quiet, and usually clean. nothing better than a freshly bathed and sleeping little boy.

on a recent weekend, where dane and i were the sole occupants of our rather large and cavernous house (at least it felt that way when there were only 2 of us here), he was nervous to sleep in his room where hunter wasn't right next to him in the room adjacent to his. i came up with a solution-he could sleep on the chaise that is in our sitting room, a perfect fit for a little boy. he was thrilled. i tucked him in with his favorite quilt, we said our prayers, then i climbed into my bed. he quickly figured out he had a captive audience, so started this long dialog with me. chatty boy he is. i of course, was not interested in anything he had to say, as when the sun goes down, i basically check out. i just had to politely tell him to be quiet, then it was silence at last. 9:30pm to be exact.

food fight

just for the record, i am trying to lose a few pounds. maybe if i say it out loud, it will become real. i am an epicurean at heart, and unfortunately so are my kids. our world revolves around food, and i might add, good food. we just all need to find time consuming hobbies.

the kids and i decided to take a very impromptu visit to provo to visit aenon and emma. i had recently started a diet and had lost 6 lbs!! i was feeling great. that feeling of euphoria was short lived...unfortunately that 6 lbs was soon to be back, all in a very short span of time and in a big way.

let's see, lets make a list of what we ate. kettle corn at the theatre, FIVE GUYS-best burger i have ever had...o, and fries too, of course. then we were on to the rice king, for some sweet and sour chicken. in fact dane ate and drank so much (well, he did have 2 large lemonades, all consumed in about 2 minutes) he threw up right on the sidewalk of center street. my first calm question when i heard about it via a frantic emma on a cellphone was, "did he throw up in the car??" that's all i really cared about. even as we were leaving provo to come home. i hear a quiet, "i dont feel so well..." hunter did it too. on the side of the highway.

no wonder we had throw up problems.

o, back to the restaurant list... there was the bread store, then iceberg, then the malt shoppe, then kneaders (all you can eat french toast), then gurus, then sushi (i actually only had cucumber salad there...see, i do have will power). need i say more?? o, i forgot, the easter bunny came bearing "easter bags" this year full of good quality chocolate. ugggh.

we had loads of fun, and it was worth the noisy ventilation system in the hotel room, stomach aches and cramped quarters. we visited a super neat art exhibit at byu, saw monsters vs aliens, and shopped at the largest forever 21 in the world. aenon took hunter to a dance party in a parking lot, and emma and i scoped out condos for fall. we even bought a tv for $10 at DI, so dane could play his video game. what a deal.

i wouldnt trade the synchronized laughter from all of my children, long conversations before bedtime, with the lights out, and the instant camaraderie that happens the minute were reunited. like 5 little peas in a pod. cant wait for the girls to come home on a more permanent basis. let the fun begin.

little purple pansies

this lovely little orphan popped up in my flower bed. i think it is a viola. it is like a teeny tiny miniature pansy. i don't have any other plant even remotely similar in my yard. i think it is a gift from my grandma. she had these in her garden in gunnison, utah. i remember as a little girl, admiring her prolific collection of flowers. the tiny violas, in all shades of purple were my favorite. so, she must have sent them...just for me to spark my very warm memories of her. thanks grandma. hope you are doing well.
